We regret to announce that a decision has been made to suspend our Youth Program for the 2020 season. We know that this news, though perhaps not unexpected, will be disappointing for the 200+ children and families served annually, and we grieve with you for the loss you may feel at this news.
Our Board of Directors met virtually on May 17, 2020 to make this decision, which was based on recommendations from many sources, including health professionals, insurers, and Equine Legal Solutions. Most importantly, it reflects the responsibility we have to our participants, staff, and community. We don’t take this decision lightly, and many weeks of prayer and thought went into it.
We understand the impact this decision will have on each of you. From so many comments made throughout the ten years we have existed as a nonprofit ministry, we know that many people find Achaius Ranch to be a place of solace, as we have focused on building a peaceful environment where people may love, heal, and grow. It is important to understand that we must not put our hope in horses or in Achaius Ranch, but instead, our hope is in the Lord Jesus Christ, who is with us now and always, no matter our circumstances.
Though we will not have staff this year, we will still be working hard behind the scenes. During this season we will focus on various projects, including ranch improvements and continuing education (such as trauma-informed human and horse psychology). We will use this forced pause in our Youth Program as an opportunity to take a step back, evaluate where we have been, where we are now, and where the Lord would lead us next.
Since mid-March we have made efforts to provide opportunities for virtual connection, such as through our daily Facebook posts, adding an Instagram account, and offering virtual meetings. We will continue such efforts and we invite you to let us know if a virtual meeting would be helpful to you. We are also excited to launch our new and improved website in the near future.
None of us know what tomorrow brings, generally speaking and specifically during this unique and trying time. We do know that God is good and is always, everywhere present. We pray that you will continue to turn toward Him in this challenging time and find the kinds of blessings that often hide in the midst of our most trying challenges.
And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. – Romans 8:28
